An outdoor ad on a boulevard in Chisinau is seen on the move or from a car, in under two seconds. If the message does not read instantly, the money on production and placement is lost. Effective outdoor advertising design impresses not with detail but with clarity from a distance. Here are the rules that matter.

Less text, more impact

The most common mistake is clutter. On a board seen for a second, no one reads a paragraph. We strip the message to its essence: one idea, a benefit if needed, and a contact. The rest distracts and weakens the main message.

Large, simple font

Decorative, thin or slanted letters get lost at a distance. We use bold, clear fonts with letters large enough for the real distance the board is viewed from. A rule of thumb: if you step 30 cm from a small mock-up and can barely read it, from the street it will be impossible.

Strong contrast

Contrast decides whether the text jumps out or fades into the background. Safe combinations are dark text on a light background or the reverse. We avoid colours close in tone and text over busy images, where the letters melt away.

  • Long distance → very large text, one idea.
  • Clear contrast → a simple background under the text.
  • One call to action → phone, website or directions, not all at once.
